When Prophet Muhammad openly proclaimed the call to Islam and called out the truth as he had been commanded to do by Allah, he criticized idols. Afterward the masters of tribes in Mecca regarded him as an enemy and united in opposition against him.

Eventually, a group of them went to Prophet Muhammad`s uncle 'Abu Talib' who was a great man in Mecca. They said: "Abu Talib! You have age, honor and position among us. Your nephew has cursed our gods and criticized our religion and our Customs, and called our fathers misguided. Either leave him to us or there will be a split between us and you. If he accept to leave his beliefs, we will prepare whatever he desires for him".

Abu Talib retold the story to his nephew. Prophet Muhammad saw that Abu Talib was very upset by what had happened. He said, 'Uncle, by Allah, if they were to place the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand on condition that I abandon this business, I would still not leave it until Allah makes it victorious or I die doing it.'
